Holden Wheel Change

I decided to put pursuit rims on my vk commodore instead of the 14inch steelies with hubcaps. Pursuit rims are a cheap 15 inch wheel which in my opinion look alright on older holden commodores such as vb, vc, vh, vk and even the vl looks ok. Also being an inch bigger than standard, there is less tyre roll during cornering, which means the car handles better and goes sideways easier. They are also known as "chasers" or "interceptors".

I bought 4 with almost new tyres privately from a bloke who worked as a tyre fitter. They were silver, but he didnt have any centre caps. Pursuit rims fit straight onto the old commodores. However, if they have the tyres from the newer commodores, the overall diameter will probably be larger than the original wheel tyre combination. This can mean your speedo will be innacurate. I found out this the hard way when i drove past a speed van doing what i thought was 108km/hr (in a 100 zone) and saw it flash. I later got a fine for doing 116km/hr. This made me realise because the new overall wheel/tyre diameter was larger, my speedo was now showing a lower speed than i was actually doing.

If your chasers are off a police car or ute then they could/should come with centre caps. These sit over the hub in the centre of the wheel and are held on by the wheel nuts. My chasers didnt come with these, however i later a set of chrome holden center caps on ebay. They dont really have much purpose, but make it look a bit neater in my opinion. I found when i put my chrome center caps on my commodore, because the were a bit old and had worn a bit, they rattled as i was driving along. I fixed this by cutting a rubber tyre inner tube in the shape of the outline of the centre caps, and placing this between the chaser rim and the centre cap. This makes everything fit firmly and eliminates the rattles.
